Lead Product Engineer
Location: Remote (European Economic Area) · Type: Full-Time, B2B
SIROC builds products and systems inside companies where the outcome matters, and someone needs to own making it happen.
Writing code is no longer the hard part; AI can generate it in minutes. The hard part is knowing what should be built, why, in what order, and getting a team to ship it. That's this role. You sit with the customer or the business, work out what actually needs to exist, turn it into a plan, direct agentic coding tools and other engineers to build it, and ship. Then you make sure it keeps working after you've moved on.
You're a team lead. Your credibility comes from your own hands. Your impact comes from the engineers around you.
Who We Think You Are
Your story probably looks something like this.
You started as a frontend or backend engineer and became the person who ships. Not the one with the most commits, but the one who understood what the customer needed, broke it into work, and got it live. Somewhere along the way, you reached across the stack because the product needed it, and you stopped treating the frontend, data pipelines, or the infrastructure as someone else's problem.
Then people started organizing around you. You distributed work, unblocked engineers, set the bar in reviews, and made the team faster than it was when you arrived. You learned that moving a team is a different skill from moving yourself, and you got good at both. Maybe you carried the Team Lead or Tech Lead title. Maybe you were the engineer everyone went to and never had a title at all. We care about the journey, not the business card.
And at some point AI changed how you work. You didn't wait to be told. You put agentic tools into your daily loop, found where they're brilliant and where they confidently lie, and brought that practice to the people next to you.
You came out of all that with two things that are hard to fake.
First: you make things happen. You talk to the customer, translate the need into a plan, and drive it to done without being pushed. When something is in the way, you move it.
Second: you're a force multiplier. The measure of your week isn't what you shipped. It's what the team shipped because you were there.
What You'll Do
Own the outcome of what you build, from the first conversation with the customer to the thing running in production. Not the ticket; the result.
Turn ambiguous product and business needs into a clear technical plan: scope, sequence, trade-offs, and what to cut.
Lead a team of engineers, SIROC's and the client's: distribute the work, unblock people, review, pair, and raise the bar.
Direct agentic coding tools to generate implementation, then review, harden, and take full accountability for what ships.
Own the architecture of backend systems (APIs, data models, pipelines, infrastructure) and defend the trade-offs behind your choices.
Reach across the stack when the product needs it: frontend, data, automations, deployment.
Bring AI-assisted engineering practices into teams that haven't adopted them yet, by showing rather than mandating.
Have the hard conversation early, while the problem is still cheap to fix.
Leave every team stronger than you found it, able to keep shipping without you.
What We Expect From You
Strong foundational depth in software engineering and system design: the kind that lets you evaluate, challenge, and correct AI-generated work rather than trust it blindly.
Proven experience leading engineers through real deliveries: distributing work, making technical decisions, mentoring, and getting a team to ship faster than it did before you.
A genuine product mindset: you can talk to a customer, translate needs into actionable work, orchestrate delivery, and iterate quickly.
Agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, and equivalent) in your daily workflow, with experience-based opinions about where they improve engineering performance and where they don't.
Command of the backend fundamentals: REST API design, SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB), plus tools like Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, or Celery.
Proficiency in Python and its modern ecosystem; comfort with Git, CI/CD, and Docker.
Comfort with infrastructure and deployment (AWS, DigitalOcean, Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar). Experience running systems at scale is highly valued.
Command of the frontend fundamentals too: TypeScript, React, and Node.js. You can build and extend a product across the stack, by hand or through agentic coding, without waiting for someone else.
Fluent English is a hard requirement, written and spoken. Everyone at SIROC interfaces directly with partners and clients.
Willingness to travel occasionally for workshops and key client moments. We work remote-first, but some trust is built faster in person.
Why This Role Is Different
In most companies, the engineer who ships gets promoted into meetings. Here, the two don't come apart. You stay close to the code, you lead, and you carry the business outcome on products and systems where it matters.
You won't be doing it alone. Behind you is SIROC's senior product, design, AI, and engineering team. In front of you is a rotation of problems: a new product, a stalled rebuild, a platform that needs to move again. You take on the challenge, help the team succeed, and move on to the next one.
