Senior Backend Software Engineer
Remote
Full-Time
At SIROC, we deploy our internal engineering team directly into the companies we collaborate with, invest in, and co-found. This role is for one of our partner companies, a growing e-commerce operations business where SIROC acts as a technical partner. You will be embedded as the most senior engineer on their production system, working closely with business leadership and a small development team.
Team & Role Context
You will be the primary engineer responsible for a production system that drives purchasing, repricing, inventory, and financial reporting across Amazon and Walmart marketplaces (US, CA, UK, AU). You work directly with the CEO and department heads. You’ll be hands-on every day, debugging DAG failures, deploying fixes, reviewing PRs, and evolving the architecture.
The system is mature but complex: Airflow DAGs, FastAPI services, Celery workers, SP-API, Keepa, Looker Studio, and Google Sheets automations. When something breaks, purchasing decisions, stock counts, and financial reports are immediately affected. Reliability is your first job.
You will be the most senior technical person. Your teammates are two junior developers who contribute code, build automations, and help other departments. They are capable and growing, but they need someone who sets engineering standards and reviews their work.
This is not a management role. There is no near-term plan to build a large engineering org. If your motivation is building a department, this isn’t the right fit. If your motivation is owning a system end-to-end with real business impact and significant autonomy, this is ideal.
You also won’t be the AI automation pioneer, we have a separate internal team driving AI transformation across the company. Your role is to make the critical things production-ready, connected, monitored, and scalable. You’re the layer that turns working prototypes into infrastructure the business can depend on.
🎯 What You'll Do
Own production infrastructure.
Maintain and continuously improve cloud infrastructure. Digital Ocean, Airflow DAGs for purchasing plans, COGS, inventory syncing, repricing reports, and market data across four Amazon marketplaces and Walmart. You diagnose and fix failures fast.Manage integrations
Seller Snap, CORE/DEAR inventory, Amazon SP-API, Keepa, supplier APIs. These break regularly. You keep them running and improve their reliability.Build and extend
New automations, pipeline extensions for new markets, API services in FastAPI. Clean, tested, documented code.Productionize automations
The team builds prototypes with AI tools. You take the ones that matter and make them robust, error handling, monitoring, connection to live systems.Review PRs and elevate juniors
Juniors submit code. You review it, enforce standards, and help them grow through the work itself.Cross-functional triage
Multiple departments depend on you. Supply Chain, Finance, Commercial. You prioritize, communicate timelines, and manage competing requests.Security hygiene
Ensure proper credentials management, access controls, secret handling, and clear environment isolation across production systems. Improve system observability, monitoring, and alerting.Observability and Monitoring
Improve monitoring, logging, and alerting across systems to detect issues early and reduce production impact.Infrastructure optimization
Identify opportunities for simplification, reliability improvements, cost optimization, and scalability.
🤩 What We Expect From You
Strong production Python. Clean, maintainable, well-documented.
Hands-on Airflow experience. You can debug a failing DAG at 7pm without panicking.
Kubernetes + Terraform on DigitalOcean (or equivalent cloud).
Comfortable with third-party API integrations that break and need fixing.
Uses AI coding tools in daily work (Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, whatever). Not resistant to AI-augmented workflows.
Practical experience with production infrastructure security and access control.
Experience improving observability and reliability of distributed systems.
Comfortable identifying architectural or infrastructure improvements proactively.
Fluent English. You’ll communicate directly with non-technical department heads.
Proactive. You find problems before they escalate and communicate early when timelines slip.

Competitive compensation. Based on experience.
Impact. Your work drives purchasing decisions across millions in inventory.
Autonomy. Significant technical freedom to shape the system.
AI-forward. We’re rebuilding our operating model around AI. You’re the production backbone of that transformation.
Breadth. Backend, data pipelines, cloud infra, analytics integrations. Ideal for an engineer who likes variety.
Honest Picture
High-priority requests come directly from business teams, sometimes outside standard hours.
The codebase is interconnected with limited documentation. Improving clarity is part of your mandate, but you must be comfortable navigating ambiguity from day one.
