At SIROC we are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our worldwide team. We want someone who thinks like an architect first and reaches for code second.
Writing backend code is no longer the hard part; AI can generate it in minutes. The hard part is knowing what should be built and why: the data model that won't collapse under load, the trade-off between two designs, the edge case nobody else spotted. In this role you direct agentic coding tools to do the bricklaying, while you own the architecture, the decisions, and the outcome. Your depth as an engineer is exactly what lets you steer the machine well, and catch it when it's wrong.
You'll work directly with engineers, designers, product owners, venture partners, and our clients to turn ideas into SaaS and B2B products. We're not looking for a task executor who waits for tickets. We want someone who makes things happen: talks to the customer, translates the need into a plan, orchestrates the work, and ships.
🎯 What You'll Do
Own the architecture of backend systems (APIs, data models, and infrastructure) and defend the trade-offs behind your choices.
Direct agentic coding tools to generate implementation, then review, harden, and take full accountability for what ships.
Build data pipelines and automations that move and stream data reliably between systems.
Turn ambiguous product needs into a clear technical plan, breaking down scope and sequencing the work.
Reason about edge cases, failure modes, scalability, and maintainability before they become incidents.
Design REST APIs, SQL/NoSQL schemas, and deployment pipelines, and know when each choice is the right one.
Reach across the stack when the product needs it, extending frontend functionality through agentic coding.
Challenge assumptions, including the AI's, and raise the quality bar for the whole team through reviews and pairing.
Contribute to product discovery: sit with customers, understand the real problem, and iterate fast toward a shipped answer.
Help teammates level up and keep engineering decisions clear and well-documented.
🤩 What We Expect From You
Fluent English is a hard requirement, written and spoken. Everyone at SIROC interfaces directly with partners and clients.
Strong foundational depth in software engineering and system design: the kind that lets you evaluate, challenge, and correct AI-generated work rather than trust it blindly.
A genuine product mindset: you can talk to a customer, translate needs into actionable work, orchestrate delivery, and iterate quickly.
Experience directing agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent) as part of your daily workflow, or the clear appetite and aptitude to work this way.
Command of the fundamentals: REST API design, SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, TimescaleDB) and NoSQL (MongoDB), plus tools like Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, or Celery.
Proficiency in Python and its modern ecosystem; comfort with Git, CI/CD, and Docker. Kotlin or Java (Spring Boot) is a plus.
Experience building data pipelines, automations, and system-to-system data streaming.
Experience running systems at scale is highly valued: big databases under load, high-availability systems, and auto-scaling platforms.
Experience with DevOps and infrastructure (DigitalOcean, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and similar) is valued.
Experience running frontend work is valued, since you'll sometimes extend the frontend through agentic coding.
Sound judgment under ownership: you organize, prioritize, and drive work to done without needing to be pushed.
A collaborative instinct: you make the people around you better and lift the bar rather than just clearing it.
